Join the SCGS Board: Help Shape Our Future

The Southern California Genealogical Society is seeking new members for its 2027 Board of Directors. This is an important time for SCGS as we look toward the future of our organization, our library, and our home in the Southern California genealogical community.

We're particularly interested in people who can bring experience and fresh ideas in areas such as:

• Fundraising and development

• Finance

• Corporate and foundation giving

• Real estate

• Strategic planning

• Marketing and communications

• Membership and outreach

• Community partnerships

• Nonprofit leadership

  
  

An interest in history and genealogy is essential. Previous board experience is helpful, but not required.

Two important Board leadership needs

A new Treasurer and Secretary will be elected from the 2027 Board of Directors. Candidates with financial, writing, organizational, record-keeping, or administrative experience are especially encouraged to consider serving.

For the Treasurer and Secretary positions, we are particularly interested in candidates who live in or near Burbank, the San Fernando Valley, or Los Angeles and can participate in person at the SCGS library when needed.

How does the nomination process work?

The Nominating Committee is currently identifying candidates for the 2027 Board and will present its recommendations to the Board in September.

SCGS members may also nominate themselves or another member by petition. Nominations by petition are due on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Five Board seats will be filled for the 2027 term.
