Braving an unseasonably hot weekend in early October, several SCGS Italian Interest Group (IGG) members participated in the 2024 Los Angeles Italian Festival in Hollywood. IGG volunteers staffed an information booth about the Southern California Genealogical Society and the Italian Interest Group, while encouraging festival attendees to place pins on a map of Italy indicating the towns of origin of their Italian ancestors. Numerous guests participated in
mapping their forebears, shared their family stories with us, and signed up for our mailing list with a mind toward becoming active group members. One lucky visitor won a copy of the paperback Italian Dual Citizenship: A Complete Guide by Dr. Paula Coffee.
A Salute to LA's Italian Heritage
The annual event is held each October in celebration of Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month. The Los Angeles Italian Festival offers delicious Italian cuisine, music, and culture in the film and television capital of the world. This year, Hawthorn Avenue was transformed into "Mercado Via Biancospino," an Italian-style market that transported visitors to the charming streets of Italy. Booths and food trucks offered a carefully curated selection of authentic Italian-American food, fashion, crafts, and collectibles. This year's Grand Marshall was actor Joe Mantegna.
The IGG booth was undoubtedly one of the most popular at the event—rivaled only by Mario’s Hard Espresso booth. Thanks to our IIG volunteers for their time and efforts on behalf of the Society and the Italian Group!
Grazie a tutti!
