The SCGS Library is entering an important transition—and we need your help. As many of you have heard, we will be relocating at the end of 2026. Unfortunately, our current rent is no longer affordable, and our new space will likely be smaller than the one we currently occupy. While change is never easy, this move gives us an opportunity to thoughtfully reshape our library for the future.
Our goal is to create a more efficient, flexible space — one that still houses the resources you rely on, while also providing room for small meetings and programs. To do that, we need to reduce the floor space currently devoted to filing cabinets, supply cabinets, and bookcases.
That’s where you come in.
Why This Matters
Over the years, thousands of books in our collection have been digitized. Links to these digital versions are already available in our online catalog, with access through Internet Archive, FamilySearch, and HathiTrust. This means we can responsibly withdraw many paper copies without losing access to their valuable content.

By carefully weeding out duplicate and digitized materials, along with clearing out outdated supplies, we can significantly reduce the space we need while preserving research access.
How You Can Help
No experience is needed — just a willingness to pitch in!
Volunteers can assist by:
Looking up books in our catalog to confirm which titles have been digitized
Pulling identified digitized books from the shelves
Boxing withdrawn books for donation to other libraries
Cleaning out supply cabinets and sorting materials for donation or disposal
Whether you can stay for a full day or just a few hours, your help makes a real difference.
