The Southern California Genealogical Society’s Italian Interest Group welcomed professional genealogist Emidio Spinogatti to our March 2024
meeting to discuss the considerations of working with a researcher in Italy, the types of records and resources available only to on-site researchers, the unique challenges of genealogical research within Italy, and more. Emidio's presentation was followed by a hosted discussion and Q&A session.
The meeting was held on March 16, from 10 a.m. to noon online via Zoom.
Meet Our Speaker: Emidio Spinogatti
Emidio is the owner of Abruzzo Genealogy, which offers genealogy research, consultations, and ancestry tours. Emidio is a member of the . He is a licensed ancestry tour guide from the heart of Abruzzo, Italy. Since founding Abruzzo Genealogy in 2014, he has helped numerous descendants of Italian emigrants rediscover their family histories. Emidio's approach combines his love for Abruzzo with a methodical, data-driven skillset honed from his background as an Information Systems Analyst, ensuring that every family story he uncovers is accurate and deeply meaningful.
As an Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) member, Emidio follows its code of ethics and high industry standards. He conducts research using various sources, including parish registers, notarial deeds, and ancient censuses. His expertise as a hiking guide, recognized by the Regional Alpine Guides Board, enriches his ancestry tours, offering clients immersive experiences in the landscapes of their forebears. Emidio's dedication to cultural preservation, sustainability, and meaningful connection with local communities directs his every project.
SCGS's Italian Interest Group welcomes anyone interested in broadening their understanding of Italian and Italian American genealogical research. We are a collaborative group that shares our discoveries and helps each other to solve research problems. Together we learn helpful Italian vocabulary, locate and examine various Italian vital records, explore the many Italian regions and provinces, and delve into historical events, cultural gems, family traditions, and more.
