The Southern California Genealogical Society's DNA Interest Group hosts John Richardson in a hybrid meeting and at the SCGS Library in Burbank. Note: the speaker will be in person.
Topic - Proving Kinship: Using Ancestry.com’s Thrulines, MyHeritage AutoClusters, GedMatch, DNA Painter, and the Genealogical Proof Standard
Tools like MyHeritage’s AutoClusters, GEDMatch, and DNA Painter, will emphasize the importance of combining DNA evidence with documentary research. The limitations of ThruLines and the need for exhaustive research, accurate citations, and sound reasoning to meet GPS standards will be explored. A case study is included to illustrate the process, and the concept of creating a "super kit" for more robust DNA analysis is introduced. The conclusion stresses that DNA alone cannot prove kinship without supporting evidence and logical analysis
