"Navigation Freedmen's Bureau Records"
(download flyer or go here:
https://lapl.org/whats-on/events/genealogy-garage-navigating-freedmens-bureau-records).

Sharon Batiste Gillins will demonstrate several techniques and resources you can use to find your family within the records and talk about the history of the Freedman's Bureau. This Saturday, the Los Angeles Public Library's Genealogy Garage series (in cooperation with SCGS and CAAGS) will feature a presenter who is an expert in a resource that is invaluable for former slave-ancestry research: The Freedmen's Bureau records. This is Part I of a two-part series--Sharon Batiste Gillins will demonstrate several techniques and resources your members can use to find your family within the records, and she'll also talk about the history of the Bureau.

Join us live on YouTube or Facebook at 11 a.m. PST this Saturday, 10/16--no need to RSVP, just go here on Saturday for the links: https://www.lapl.org/whats-on/events/genealogy-garage-navigating-freedmens-bureau-records

This presentation will only be available to view for up to a month after its live-airing date.

This program was made possible by generous donations from the Central Library Docents, the Southern California Genealogical Society, and the California African American Genealogical Society (three cheers for partnering up with local friends!).

Part II will be presented in November by SCGS and feature Shamele Jordon giving a unique, hands-on workshop with the Freedmen's records (this will be conducted by the SCGS Lunch and Learn program, put on by Charlotte Bocage). Space for Part 2 is limited for this highly interactive portion --a link will be provide for those to RSVP at the end of Sharon's October 16th presentation.
