About the Event
The Southern California Genealogical Society's popular online Webinar Series hosts genealogist Dr. Janice Lovelace on Saturday, October 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. PDT. Dr. Lovelace will present "Buffalo Soldiers in the Western Frontier."
About the Webinar
African Americans have served in every war, dating back to the Revolutionary War in the 18th century. However, segregation impacted their roles. Through an act of Congress in 1866, legislation was adopted to create six all-African American Army units. The units identified were the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 38th, 39th, 40th, and 41st Infantry regiments. In 1869, the four infantry regiments were reorganized to form the 24th and 25th infantry regiments. The four all-Black regular Army regiments, known as the “Buffalo Soldiers,” served primarily in the post-Civil War West of the 19th century. What were their lives like? Where do you find records?
