Many Swedes who immigrated to North America joined a Swedish-American Church. Many of these churches kept detailed church registers.  These records can be invaluable in identifying the Swedish immigrant's place of origin, including birth dates and places, so that one can cross the Atlantic to research the family ancestry in the Swedish church books. The records also complement the state and federal census records, providing information about the immigrant’s family movements. This presentation will highlight the history of Swedish-American churches, the various denominations, the types of records kept, and where you can find these records online and offline.
