Separating memories is a difficult process, and, more often, it works the other way: 2 or more memories are combined. The end result: date, name, and place confusion. The story may seem more interesting, but for the family historian, attempting to attach a person’s vitals from that medium and the conflation (combining 2 or more events into a single one) can stymie the researcher for decades. Learn some ways to determine if a family story is a combination of memories.
