About the Webinar

Join us for a SCGS Webinar with Mary Risseeuw presents "German Immigrant Letters".

More than 400 million letters were exchanged between the U.S. and Germany during the peak decades of German immigration. By the 1880s there were more than three million letters exchanged between Germany and the U.S. in a given year. When this correspondence is examined, one can gain insight into culture, expectations, and an overall worldview. This lecture also focuses on letter collections in libraries and archives throughout the U.S. and published books of letters. Participants will learn how to best utilize the letters, start their own collection, and locate translation services.
