The Southern California Genealogical Society's German Interest Group hosts genealogist Jana Bickel on Saturday, April 18, at its hybrid meeting held online and at the SCGS Family Research Library in Burbank. Jana will virtually present "Ottilie Assing: A Female German Emigrant Who Collaborated with Frederick Douglass." The meeting will be held from 1 to 3:50 p.m. PDT.


Who Was Ottilie Assing? Ottilie Assing was a German-born writer and activist who moved to the United States, where she became deeply involved in the abolitionist movement. She formed a long professional and personal partnership with Frederick Douglass, helping bring his ideas to European audiences through her writing and translations.


About the German Interest Group Meetings
