Ugo P. Perego, PhD., MSc., will be the keynote speaker at the Southern California Genealogical Society's Genetic Genealogy Conference to be held Friday through Sunday, March 31 to April 2, 2023, in Burbank. Presented in-person and online, Dr. Perego will explore "Twenty-Five Years in Genetic Genealogy", on March 31 at 5 p.m. PST. The internationally acclaimed molecular biologist and population geneticist was a senior researcher and director of operations for the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation before it was sold to Ancestry.com in 2012. During that time, he traveled the world collecting genealogical data
and biological specimens with the objective of building the world’s largest and most comprehensive database of correlated genealogical and genetic data.
Dr. Perego is the President of the Genetic Genealogy Consultant, a visiting scientist with the Biology and Biotechnology Department "L. Spallanzani" at the University of Pavia, Italy, and a biology lecturer at the Southeastern Community College in Iowa. His research focuses on the use of DNA and its application to forensic genetic genealogy investigations and population migrations.
