Research Team

The Southern California Genealogical Society Research Team is a group of highly qualified volunteers who conduct specialized research for a nominal fee for our patrons. Up to 25 copies of applicable findings are furnished with each individual research project. Our library includes over 30,000 books plus many electronic and thousands of microform records.

Revolutionary War Ancestor
If your ancestor was born before 1765 there is a strong possibility that he served in the Revolutionary War. We will search over 40 available volumes of pertinent records to locate your ancestor.
American Colonial Wars
Thousands of Americans from Maine to South Carolina fought in the many Colonial Wars from the Pequot War in 1638 to the French and Indian Wars ending in 1762. Many of the warriors of the American Revolution were trained in these Colonial Wars.
Massachusetts Town Records
Vital Records listing birth, marriage, or death have been printed for most of the towns of Massachusetts up to 1850. SCGS has over 200 of these publications available to search for your ancestor. These searches are conducted by Surname so that often a single search will reveal data on other ancestors.
Colonial Virginia Records Search
References will be searched to find the name of your ancestor living in Virginia during Colonial times, before 1800. Information regarding families, births, deaths, marriages, property records and records of individual counties is available from our extensive Virginia holdings.
Cornish Records Search
SCGS has one of the great collections of Cornish ancestry records, many of which go back to the 1500s. These records include the celebrated Ross Collection of births, marriages, deaths and other official records of Government and Church in Cornwall. A search can also be made of the Cornish miners of California and Michigan and other areas where Cornish people were involved.
The California Gold Rush
If your ancestor came to California during the Gold Rush this is the search that may be helpful. Our records include names of people who came by ship or overland. Many names are recorded in published newspapers of the day. The research also includes Northern California marriages 1850-1860 and the 1850 and 1860 Census. In addition, about 4800 veterans of the many wars from 1775 to 1885 received land grants in California for their service.
French-Canadian Research
We are the home of the French-Canadian Heritage Society of California and one of the largest collections of French-Canadian resources in the USA. Our researchers will search the Blue and Red Drouin, Jette, Tanguay, PRDH, and the marriage records of the 1000 parishes, and the many other FC resources we have to help you document your ancestry.
Germanic Research
We have one of the largest and most unique collections of Germanic sources in the country, including the 30-year collection of Walter Hilbig of Heritage Quest and the FHL in Salt Lake and that of the former German Genealogical Society of America now owned by SCGS.  Our 3,000+ books, CD's, databases and manuscripts, plus experienced researchers, can help you with names, brick walls, and villages from Alsace-Lorraine to East Prussia and beyond with sources ancient and brand-new.

We also have researchers available to help with you Los Angeles County genealogy questions.
