Mountain View Cemetery, situated between Altadena and Pasadena, California, was officially opened in 1882; but a few earlier burials are included. The information in this directory was taken from a list of headstones copied by Mrs. Edward Morse, of the DAR, in 1931, 1932 and 1933. The importance of the names in this cemetery is increased by the fact that most of the pre-1900 deaths are not recorded in the Los Angeles County death records. Mountain View Cemetery may be the only place the person's death and burial is documented. Directory holds over 10,000 entries.
