"Early Cemeteries of the City of Los Angeles" by
Edwin H. Carpenter UPDATE June 16, 2006 Los Angeles Daily News: http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_3943316 Archaeologists have discovered the remains of 80 bodies at the construction site for the Grand Avenue School, which is situated atop a hillside which was used as a cemetery in the 1860s through 1890s. Officials researched records and concluded that the cemetery had been relocated. However, workers have found empty caskets, partial remains and intact skeletons. Other articles on this website speak to the disrepair of the cemetery and the challenges that were faced in relocating the graves as late as the 1940s. Archaeologists are attempting to identify the bodies using notes, jewelery, etc., but feel it is nearly impossible to identify the remains, which will be transferred to Rosedale Cemetery.
