In addition to the names included in the burial journal,
additional interments have been documented at Los Angeles City Cemetery.
Edwin H. Carpenter’s monograph, “Early Cemeteries of Los
Angeles,” provides
evidence of some these burials:
James R. Barton |

Andrew Sublette |

|
Nehemiah Potter |

In the 1880’s and later, the Los Angeles Times reported on Memorial
Day ceremonies and activities observed by the local G.A.R. posts. Many
articles mentioned the names of soldiers buried in the City Cemetery.
Other interments were noted in obituaries and news items in the LA Times:

Several other LA Times entries, including obituaries and news articles,
included the names of several individuals buried at Los Angeles City
Cemetery. In true irony, vandals helped document the existence of gravesites
in the cemetery. Starting in the early 1900s and through the mid-1910s,
the LA Times carried several articles describing the poor condition of
the cemetery and the desecration of the burial ground. Similarly, articles
describing the closing of the cemetery and disinterment of remains helped
identify its former residents.
