The Southern California Genealogical
Society sponsors one of the nation's most successful family history programs for young people -- Kids' Family History Camp.
The Kids' Camp is offered in conjunction with the Society's annual Genealogy Jamboree.
Kids' Camp is free and open to the public.
The program is designed for all interested youth between the ages of 8 and 16. We support Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who are working on their genealogy merit badges. Boy Scout Merit Badge counselors will be on hand.
Kids' Camp is also a resource for students who are working on a class assignment.
Attention parents and grandparents, this is a good way to get the next generation involved in your pasttime!

Advance Preparation
Boy Scouts need to download the Boy Scout Genealogy Merit Badge Workbook from http://www.boyscouttrail.com/external_frame.asp?goto=http://usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/Genealogy.pdf or purchase the complete Genealogy Merit Badge booklet at the nearest Boy Scout shop.
Boy Scouts complete these prerequisites: 2a or 2b, 3, 4b, 6, 7
Bring your blue card that has been signed by your Scoutmaster. Fill in your name and the merit badge subject (Genealogy). You will be interviewed about genealogy and your family history before having the blue card signed off. Although we plan on having several Merit Badge counselors available, please note the program is scheduled to end at 7:00 p.m. The actual ending time will depend on when the scout’s blue card is signed.
Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cadettes can work toward the various badges and patches. Log on to http://www.girlscouts.org/ for more information.
All attendees, do some detective work before you come. Download a Pedigree
Chart and a Family
Group Sheet and fill it out as best you can.
To begin, start
with yourself. You are the beginning “branch” on your
family tree. Find out as much as you can about your parents,
grandparents, and great-grandparents. Write down what you find out. Be sure to identify who gave you the information or where you learned it from. This will be the “source” of the information. This is very important.
Bring the completed forms and any information you have collected with you to the class.
Pedigree chart – the
pedigree chart is a road map for your family history research. Please
fill out the chart with as much information as you can find before
the Kid’s Genealogy Camp class and bring it with you.
Here is an idea of how to fill out a Pedigree chart with Walt
Disney’s pedigree chart.
Family Group Sheet – allows
you to see every member in each family. Please fill out the chart
with as much information as you can find before the Kid’s Genealogy
Camp class and bring it with you.
The Kids’ Family History Camp will provide each pre-registered child with take-home information so you can continue searching for your family.
