William Dollarhide currently resides in Layton, Utah, and writes on genealogy subjects for books and magazines. Born 1942, raised in Seattle, educated at West Seattle High School; US Army 8th Division Leadership Academy, Baumholder, Germany; Edison Technical School; Seattle Central Community College (AA degree); political science/education/writing course work at the University of Washington, and computer-related course work at Western Washington University. From 1977-1985, he was employed as an Associate Facilities Architect at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. He has been in pursuit of his family origins since 1971 and involved professionally with genealogy since founding the Dollarhide System for Genealogical Records in 1980. As Dollarhide Systems from 1985-1994, he developed and marketed software systems for organizing genealogical records. As a genealogical lecturer since 1985, he has conducted seminar programs for over 700 genealogical societies in 45 states.
