Meetings

The French-Canadian Heritage Society meets at least twice per year to research our own French-Canadian ancestry and to help others research theirs. We sometimes have guest speakers of interest or special FC related programs. Meeting dates in 2007 are March 18 and November 18. Meetings are held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the SCGS Library. Programs, if any, usually begin at 1:00.

Reminders of the meetings and any other activities will be found in The Searcher, the award-winning journal of the Southern California Genealogical Society, or in the Society's newsletter, The News and Notes. These publications are issued quarterly and are available to dues paying members.

Please join us at our next meeting for a day of fact-finding, fun, and fellowship. You can either brown-bag it or we order pizza for lunch. Coffee and other refreshments are usually available throughout the day. Come on down and meet your cousins and cousines.

French-Canadian DNA Project

Our French-Canadian Heritage Society is sponsoring this DNA project as a way to honor their French ancestry. The project now has over 515 members from all over this county, Canada, and France. There are 400 men and 115 women in the project.

We are waiting for you. Be the first to honor your French Canadian heritage by helping to establish the DNA signature of that earliest ancestor. Learn more about it at www.frenchdna.com. And while you are at it check out our results. I am sure you will find them interesting.

Special Collections and Acquisitions

Our most recent acquisition upgrades the Louisiana Acadian collection; and the group has just purchased over $1000 worth of books.

Another recent acquisition includes the 62-volume set of "200 French-Canadian Families" by Fr. Youville Labonte. Starting with an obituary of a Maine resident, Fr. Labonte traces the decedent back to his earliest ancestor. The material also includes a recitation of the information in the obituary. Although the ancestry begins with a resident of Maine, it quickly jumps to French-Canada, so it will be a valuable resource for many.

Don't forget to stop by our tables at the Jamboree. If you can spare some time to volunteer please let us know.
