Most of the French-Canadian Research Resources at the SCGS Library in Burbank

  • Repertoire alphabetique des mariages des Canadiens francais, 1760 a 1935. This is commonly referred to as the Blue Drouin. It comes in two versions: male 49 volumes and female 64 volumes. We have both versions on microfiche. This resource contains between 1 and 2 million marriages, mostly Quebec. There are only 4 other libraries in the US with this reference.

  • Marriage Records of over 1030 parishes in Quebec(Click for the listing), Ontario, and other provinces on microfiche. Additionally, in book form, approximately 500 other parishes, in Quebec, Ontario, Acadia, Rhode Island, New Hampshire,and Massachusetts. This includes some baptismal and burial records. These records start at the beginning of the parish up through the date of publication which is usually 1950 or later.

  • Loiselle Index. This is the microfiche version. It covers the period 1608 to 1972. This index contains over 400,000 marriages and is cross-indexed by bride and groom. These marriages were taken from approximately 400 parishes mostly in the province of Quebec, the Ottawa area of Ontario, Madwaska County in New Brunswick as well as Ste Anne’s in Fall River, MA., and some records from Manchester, NH.

  • Le Repertoire des Actes de Bapteme, Mariage, Sepulture, et des Recensements du Quebec Ancien. (Acts of Baptisms, Marriages, Burials, and Censuses of Old Quebec) This work, also known as the PRDH is a monumental 47 volumes covering the period 1621 to 1765. It contains most of the printed parish records - baptisms, marriages, and burials as well as censuses, marriage contracts, hospital sick lists, etc. It includes the extra feature of listing everyone present at the ceremony

  • PRDH, as above, but CD version which takes the period covered from 1621 to 1799.

  • Jette. Genealogical Dictionary of the Families of Quebec. Contains genealogies of the early families of Quebec from 1621 to 1730. 2 copies.

  • Tanguay. Genealogical Dictionary of Early Canadian Families from the beginning of the Colony. This contains extensive genealogies of the early families in French Canada from 1608 to 1760.

  • Drouin. Two volumes of marriage records covering the period 1680-1760, and a third volume containing historical data, coats of arms etc.

  • Miller's Manual. A "How-To" Research Guide, in English. This publication explains, in simple terms, how to research Tanguay, Drouin, Jette, The PRDH, and general baptismal, marriage and burial records.

  • Early French Families of the Detroit River Region by Denissen. This 2 volume set covers the period 1701 to 1936.

  • Jesuit Relations Index. 2 volumes. Additionally, the entire 73 volumes on CD.

  • History and Genealogy of the Acadians by Arsenault. 6 volumes.

  • Our French Canadian Ancestors by Laforest. 26 volumes.

  • French-Canadian Families of the North Central States by Lareau and Courteau. 8 volumes. Contains genealogies of many of the French Canadians that settled in Minnesota, The Dakotas, and Wisconsin.

  • Genealogies of the Families of the Counties of Beauce, Dorchester, and Frontenac by Talbot. Covers the period 1625-1946. 11 volumes.

  • Bergeron, Adrien. Le Grand Arrangement Des Acadiens Au Quebec. 8 volumes of genealogies and histories. In French

  • Aubin, Paul & Louis Marie Cote. Bibliography of the History of Quebec and Canada: 1946-1965. 2 volumes. 1395 pages.

  • 1966-1976. 2 volumes. 1430 pages.

  • 1976-1980. 2 volumes. 1316 pages.

  • 1981-1985. 2 volumes. 2073 pages.

  • The French-Canadians 1600-1900. 3 volumes. This is a 3000 page index containing 468,000 names taken from city and town directories, marriage records, land records and other sources.

  • Sacramental Records of the Roman Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. 5 Volumes.
