Each memorial is available at a nominal cost ($15
to $50 or more), depending on the size, content, and the number
of photographs included in the memorial. SCGS will provide
design and layout of the memorial as part of the service.
How do you participate in this new program?
Go through your vintage photographs and pick out some you would
like to include. Good quality photographs will work the best,
but we can work with problematic images. Very poor quality
photographs are not suitable to be included in the Gallery, unfortunately.
If you have your own scanner and feel comfortable
doing the scanning, scan your photos at as high
resolution as possible. Larger resolution photos are
easier to work with, so don’t skimp on the size of the
scan. If you have the option, scan at 300 dpi or higher.
Attach the scan to an email. Copy the transmittal information
from the SCGS website and paste the information into an email. Attach
the photo in .jpg, .gif, .tif, or .png format. If you are
ordering more than one Gallery memorial, send a separate email
for each ad. Email jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com.
If you do not have a scanner, we will scan the photo
for you. To avoid the possibility of lost
or damaged photos, we will not accept any photos by mail. Over
the next two months, we will be at the SCGS Library and will
scan photos for those who need scanning assistance. Bring your
photos and biographical information to the Library, do some
research or join in Lunch and Learn, and take your photos home
with you after the lecture. Scanning will be available
from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. on February 10, February 17, March
10, and March 17.
If your photo needs repair, one of our Jamboree
exhibitors, Claire at Photos Made Perfect, has offered a $10
discount coupon for Ancestors Gallery participants. If
you use their services, ask Claire to email the repaired photo
to us for inclusion in Ancestors Gallery.
All photos must be submitted by March 17, 2007, to be included
in the Jamboree syllabus. Photos submitted after that date
will be added to the website after Jamboree.
Rules and Points to Consider
Identify all individuals in the photograph, and double check your
information. Contributors will be given an opportunity to approve/revise
the Gallery memorial after it has been drafted. Changes
made after the memorial is approved will be made for an additional
cost. All content will be the responsibility of the contributor.
To protect your copyright and ownership of the photos you contribute,
all participants will be asked to sign a release to permit publication
in the Syllabus and on the website.
We want to include photographs deceased family members. If
a group photo includes an individual who is still living, indicate
only that person’s name and “living.” Information
on living individuals will not be published.
At this time, we are not accepting unidentified photographs. It
is possible that we will expand to “Missing Persons” photos
in the future.
