We’re back at the Marriott Los Angeles Burbank Airport Hotel.  The name has changed a little but it's the same great place. The hotel and convention center is an easily accessible, comfortable venue in which to hold an event like Jamboree.  The Convention Center, home to Jamboree for the past four years, underwent a $24 million renovation of the sleeping rooms, the lobby and other public areas in 2008.

Sessions in the Convention Center and the Hotel.  We have booked the entire convention center, as well as the City Ballroom in the main hotel, throughout the entire Jamboree weekend.  This year, we will have 300 more seats with the addition of the Jamboree Pavilion which will be located behind the Convention Center building. This will give us more seating.

Hotel Room Rates:  We have negotiated a discounted room rate for Jamboree:  $149 per night single or double occupancy.  The discounted room rate is in effect for June 8 through June 14, 2010 (depending on availability). You may find that the hotel's website offers even lower rates for AAA, senior, or leisure guests. If you book one of these lower rates, please email your name and confirmation number to jamboree@scgsgenealogy.com.

Lodging Room Reservations:  Make your hotel reservations online, with just a few keystrokes, or by phone.  Click here to be taken to the special Jamboree Hotel Registration page and reserve your room.

Hotel Reservation Deadline:  Make your reservations early – no later than May 10, 2010 – to take advantage of the discounted rate.  Reservations depend on availability.  Reserve your room online (above) or by phone at 800-736-9712 and mention the Jamboree code GENGENA

Food and Refreshments.

  1. Food at the Marriott:  Sandwiches, beverages, salads, soft drinks and snacks will be available at the Day Bar in the main hotel. You'll find concession sales in the Convention Center at lunch time all three days, as well as coffee in the morning. If you’d rather enjoy a relaxing meal, visit the Daily Grill. Guests of the Marriott can order room service and retreat to their rooms for some peace and quiet.

  2. Food within Walking Distance:  If you’re in the mood for a stretch break and a quick bite, you’re in luck.  The food court across the street offers a variety of quick meals, including McDonald’s, Del Taco, Denney’s, Subway, and Panda Express, SanSai Japanese Restaurant, and a Greek restaurant.  It's about a one-block walk from the Marriott – just enough to stretch your legs during the lunch break.

  3. Food within Driving Distance:  The hotel is just minutes away from the Media Center and the Empire Mall in Burbank, but you will want to drive.  Here are directions to Empire Mall and Media Center.  You’ll find any number of great restaurants within just a few minutes of the Marriott.  You’ll find a list of our favorites here

Parking.  Jamboree attendees will receive discounted parking at $10 per day.  Lodging guests at the Marriott will be permitted in-and-out access.  You may also want to explore parking at one of the neighboring commercial lots that surround the Burbank airport.  Here is a map showing the nearby parking lots.  All of the lots offer shuttle service to and from the airport, so if you want to save steps, you can go to the airport and then catch the Marriott shuttle to the hotel.

Drop-off and Pickup – Free!  There is a 15-minute grace period on parking costs, so if a driver is dropping off someone at the Marriott and then leaving, they will not need to pay for parking within the first 15 minutes.

Conference Room Temperature.  As is often the case with hotel conference rooms, the meeting room temperature can vary from room to room and from hour to hour. The Marriott staff is very diligent in trying to keep the temperatures comfortable, but it is all but impossible to maintain consistent temperatures.  We strongly suggest that you dress in layers and bring a sweater in case you happen to find yourself in a cooler room.

Handicap Access:  All conference rooms are handicapped-accessible and are located on one floor. The hotel has a limited number of handicap parking slots. We will have a special area, in the first row directly to the east of the Convention Center, reserved for handicap parking.

The Marriott is a smoke-free facility.  High-speed Internet access is available in the lodging rooms for an additional fee.  The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness area.

Conference etiquette.  Please avoid wearing perfume, cologne, or other scents.  Your fellow attendees -- especially those with allergies -- will be very grateful.

Why not come to town a few days early, or stay through the weekend, and drink up the excitement that is Los Angeles. Fly into the Bob Hope Burbank Airport and jump on the complimentary shuttle, and you'll be at the hotel in just minutes. Whether it's sightseeing, taking the family to Disneyland, or spending a few days ancestor-hunting at the area's many genealogical treasure troves, there is no place like Southern California.
